Interior theatre designer Stuart Smith-Gordon turned to creating paper theatres during the lockdowns of 2020. Publisher of our popular London model theatre range in the shop, Stuart has created this slot together wooden theatre based on the lost Empire Palace Theatre, Edinburgh. A palace of the imagination, the original theatre’s rich and detailed interiors designed by theatre architect Frank Matcham were destroyed in a fire of 1911.
Stuart has lovingly created the theatre reinterpreting archive data, photographs, building plans and newspaper articles.
The physical model is a flat packed kit to slot together and is accompanied with a booklet detailing the history and the digital restoration including architectural plans. You can also perform on your theatre as it comes with scenes, characters and a script for a new play ‘The Great Lafayette – The Man of Mystery’.
